'I Swear'

Men,
       like the fingers on my left hand
       I had five of them
       spare the five on my right
it would be the same

Him,
       like the thumb, he's quite far from the others
       I look up to him
       because his music gives him wings
I thought he was the one

and him,
             like the forefinger, he always points ahead
             I look forward to him
             because his skills rob him away
I thought he was the one

another him,
                   like the middlefinger, he stands out
                   I am always looked upon
                   because his intellect makes me dumb
I thought he was the one

still another him,
                        like the ring finger, he is chained with diamonds
                        I always look out though
                        because he may be fancy inside
I thought he was the one

one more him,
                     like the small finger, he has nothing to brag
                     but I always look to him
                     because his eyes speak of difference
and I thought he was the one

but it's always been the same
I thought each of them was the one,
                                                     the one that crossed my knuckles like a ring
                                                     seeking the perfect finger
